Downtown Lawrence Kansas: Bleeding Kansas Capital

We are in downtown Lawrence Kansas. Lawrence's downtown is full of restaurants, brewery's, shops, architecture and history. And we are going to mill around for a bit see what interesting sites we can see grab some lunch and just enjoy the day. Lawrence was founded in 18 54 by group from the New England aid society, a group of abolitionists that came into the Kansas territory to ensure that the State would be admitted to the union as a Free State. A lot happened in this town both before and during the Civil War. Most notably was Quantrill’s raid in 1863 that resulted in the destruction of Lawrence and the deaths of 150 citizens. This town has been burned twice. But Lawrence rose from the ashes and has become an incredibly quaint college town. I love history and I get out and go find it every week! I have found some amazing history just by getting out and exploring! I try to pronounce everything properly.
