(PMtOK Remix) "Snippety-Snip Mania" The Dual-Bladed Duelist
A remix of Scissors' theme from Paper Mario: The Origami King! Enjoy! (Although, should I say it's a remix of Scissors' theme... Or a remix of Megalovania with the melody from Scissors' theme instead of the normal Megalovania melody?? w) SECRET MELODIES IN THE ORDER THAT THEY PLAY: 1. "MEGALOVANIA" from Undertale (also the webcomic Homestuck. This secret melody plays throughout, and is the bassline and chord progression for most of the remix.) 2. "Cut Man Stage" from Mega Man (the original game) 3. "The Ultimate Show" (Final Boss Theme) from Super Paper Mario 4. The main theme from Paper Mario: Color Splash 5. "The Fanged Fastener" from Paper Mario: The Origami King 6. "The Royal Theme" (Original Leitmotif) 7. "Calamari Inkantation" from the Splatoon series THOUGHT PROCESS: Originally, the remix was actually going to have the bassline and chords from Scissors' theme... But then, because I have a habit of finding every song that can be played to the bassline of Megalovania easily, I found out that it fits well with the bassline of Megalovania. Thus, I took the lazy route and went with what I already know how to play. (I might do a different remix of Scissors' theme with the correct bassline and chords in future, so don't have a bad time just yet. Although, I am fickle, and I might just have this single remix, so don't bet all your money on me making another remix www.) Scissors is way more childlike in the Japanese version, and since that is the version of Oriking I am most familiar with, I threw in a music box soundfont. Sans (who is associated with Megalovania because it plays during his battle in the Genocide Route) is shown playing the trombone at one point during Undertale, and so there's a trombone in the background. Towards the end of the song, before the key change, I thought that it would be interesting if I had a different bass and chord progression for a little while. I was having a hard time thinking of one when I remember Calamari Inkantation, which worked almost immediately. I also threw in Stapler's theme, because in my gijinka (humanized) world, Scissors and Stapler are close friends (not a ship, although I DO ship Scissors with another member of the Legion of Stationery... w) LOCALIZATION GOSSIP: (Note that I saw fanart on Pixiv before I saw the actual game, so my reaction to the English localization is a bit strange as a result.) I'll be bold and say that Scissors is the Legion of Stationery member who is the most different between the English and Japanese versions of the game. In English, they are somewhat serious and knight-like throughout their dialogue (though they show more of a battle-loving side when their sheath is broken, and they act a tad childish when you dodge Final Cut for the first time.) Seeing as how Scissors is said to be "Olly's top lieutenant," I can understand why they are so knightly in the English version. However, in the Japanese version, their characterization is almost completely different - they act childlike instead of knight-like. Scissors' first-person pronoun is ぼく ("boku"; a first-person pronoun with a soft "masculine" vibe, can be used by adults and young children alike) and while they don't talk like a toddler per se, they definitely talk in a very playful, youthful way (I would guess about 6 ~ 8 years old.) They refer to the Paper Mistake Buzzy Beetle as their "toy" and refer to fighting as "playing." They also seem to love battle in the Japanese version as well; they shout "Let's play!" both before their battle and before they put their cover on, and when they charge up Final Cut, they let out a scream of excitement. I personally like the Japanese version of Scissors better, because they're adorably terrifying, but that's just me. One more thing: I think Scissors is supposed to be "female" in the Chinese localizations, though I am completely unsure about this since I can't read Simplified Chinese OR Traditional Chinese. So don't quote me on that one.
