IL CLAN PERDUTO. GURRO: UN PAESE SCOZZESE IN ITALIA

The story begins in 1525. After the historic Battle of Pavia between Francis I (King of France) and Charles V (Holy Roman Emperor), where the French suffered a defeat, a group of Scottish mercenaries serving the King of France attempted to return home by heading north. Caught in the harsh winter, the soldiers found refuge in Gurro in the Cannobina Valley. History then intertwines with tradition and legend. Struck by the landscape's resemblance to their Highlands and the fertility of the soil, they decided not to leave but to settle permanently in the village, integrating with the local population. For centuries, the geographic isolation has preserved unique traditions. In 1973, Colonel Robert Gayre, Baron of Lochoreshyre, after studying historical evidence, officially recognized Gurro as part of the Gayre Clan, renaming it the "Lost Clan." Even today, during certain holidays, the village celebrates its Scottish roots by parading in kilts to the sound of bagpipes.
