Improving The DR Rapid Fire Log Splitter: Glide Plate Screw Replacement / Upgrade
After several years of splitting, the tiny screws that held on the Bronze glide plate under the splitting ram broke and stripped out the threads in the holes. After loosening 6 bolts, the ram block was free to drill and tap for bigger screws. Special 'V' head screws were used to hold the plate on, and the holes had to be precisely shaped by drill bits and sandpaper to fit the screw heads perfectly. The old small screws were a weak point in the design of this log splitter because they had little shear strength, these much larger screws should last for the life of the unit.
