"Gothic II: Night of the Raven" is a mod for the Gothic II computer game, released on December 10, 2021. The mod is free, but requires a licensed copy of Gothic II: Gold Edition to run. The mod moves the game's action to the island of Archolos. It contains approximately 150 quests, new gameplay mechanics, technical innovations, reworked balance, and its own soundtrack.[⇨] "The Chronicles of Myrtana" is a prequel to Gothic, set ten years before the first game in the series. The player controls Marvin, who arrives on Archolos in search of a peaceful life but eventually becomes embroiled in political conflict.[⇨] The mod is based on the work of the "History of Khorinis" mod, which was transferred to a separate project due to a conflict within the development team. The mod's creation took over four years. The modification received a full Polish dub, featuring professional voice actors.[⇨] "The Chronicles of Myrtana" received positive reviews from critics; reviewers noted that the modification captured the atmosphere of "the original" Gothic well, and also compared the game to The Witcher. However, they acknowledged that the game is buggy, and that playing such an old game can be challenging. The modification won the "Best Mod of the Decade" vote on the Mod DB portal.
