Royal Navy's Amphibious Replacement: Cancelled and Replaced With a Question Mark

The Multi-Role Strike Ship programme is cancelled. The Defence Investment Plan, published on 30 June 2026, confirmed that the MRSS - the Royal Navy's planned replacement for HMS Albion, HMS Bulwark, the Bay-class landing ships and RFA Argus — has been scrapped. In its place, the government says it will explore joining the Netherlands-led Amphibious Transport Ship programme. No hull numbers. No specific funding figure. No confirmed timeline beyond the Dutch programme's own planned deliveries from 2032. In this video, we look at what the MRSS was supposed to be, why it was cancelled, what the Dutch-influenced replacement actually means in practice, and what the Royal Navy is left with in the meantime - including the escort problem nobody in government wants to talk about. #RoyalNavy #MRSS #RoyalMarines #UKDefence #DefenceInvestmentPlan #AmphibiousWarfare #RoyalNavyNews #UKMilitary #NavalDefence #BritishArmedForces This video includes imagery and footage sourced from: -UK Ministry of Defence and Royal Navy Imagery Library (https://www.royalnavy.mod.uk/) – used under the UK Open Government Licence v3.0 where applicable. -Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons – licensed under Creative Commons (CC BY-SA or equivalent), with appropriate attribution to original creators where required. -Public Domain sources, including material released by the UK Government, NATO, and allied military agencies. -BAE Systems -Damen -Team Resolute All media has been used in accordance with applicable licensing terms.
