This is a gold dusted salmon of a demo from the Royal Canadian Air Force CF-188A of the 425 TACTICAL FIGHTER SQUADRON / CF-18 DEMO TEAM on Wednesday's practice display at RAF Fairford. What are the differences between Canada's CF-18 Hornet and the usual F-18 Hornets? Well the CF-18 are carrier based Hornets with a few modifications. The really cool difference is primitive but very effective; a false canopy! There is a painted false canopy directly underneath the fuselage of the Hornet, right below the real cockpit. The idea is cause confusion when engaging in dogfights, causing some disorientation to enemy pilots. Pilots engaging in dogfights rely on keeping a physical visual lock on their opponent, so seeing the fake cockpit would confuse or disorientate their opponent.
