Toccata Rea & Bandoneon (Astor Piazzola) by Santiago Cimadevilla (live @Cultuur Haven Veghel)

Santiago Cimadevila performs from Maria de Buenos Aires, 'Toccata Rea' and from Suite Troileana, 'Bandoneon' composed by Astor Piazzolla. This video was recorded in De Cultuur Haven in Veghel live 2021. It was a thrill for us to have Santiago Cimadevilla in our Vrije Geluiden Sessies. A gifted musician playing one of the most beautiful instruments on earth. Santiago once said: ‘if I could see the buttons of the bandoneon while playing, I would find the instrument almost unplayable.’ He has always done it intuitively. Yet Santiago did not start his musical career on his most beloved instrument. Santiago Cimadevilla started playing the guitar in his hometown Buenos Aires at an early age, but later continued on the piano and studied classical at the conservatory. He moved to the Netherlands and started studying bandoneon at the conservatory of Rotterdam. His heart was most with this instrument. Santiago stayed in Holland and he also works as a teacher and supervisor of the Artistic Research department on the Masters course at the Conservatory of Rotterdam (CODARTS). Santiago is a great admirer of Astor Piazzolla. So in this set he performs two pieces written by Piazzolla: ‘Bandoneon’ and ‘Toccata Rea’. Besides an admirer, he can call himself a specialist in the field of Piazzolla’s original quintets in the tango world. He has also arranged many of the master's pieces for orchestra.
