Two Televue-Killer Eyepieces: APM HDC 13mm And 20mm 100 Degrees Ultra Wide Angle Eyepieces/ Review
The Chinese company United Optics has long mastered the production of the next Ethos clone from Tele Vue and was looking for a company that would take on the logistics and sales of these eyepieces under a new label. There have been several attempts (Levenhuk, Rover, Arsenal, etc.) and now, finally, a breakthrough came through the alliance of APM and Lunt Engineering. These companies jointly took up the aggressive promotion of these centenarians at a price approximately 20% lower than their closest competitor, Explore Scientific. The community of astronomy lovers is eager for free and sales have gone. Moreover, the new owners were so pleased with their purchases that, when compared with their Explore Scientific counterparts, they reported much better image quality, much more effective anti-reflective coating and a darker background. This was puzzling - after all, my first test of 9 mm HDC (see a review of 5 years ago above) seemed to show that the optics for the analogues from Explore Scientific and United Optics (no matter what label they were sold under) are the same and miraculously cannot differ significantly in results. Either APM and Lunt Engineering sell other optics - not the one I studied 5 years ago: “much better fur” at a lower price, or the owners of these 100-degree eyewear are newly mistakenly mistaken as their purchase! (From Ernest at : http://astro-talks.ru/forum/viewtopic...) To my experience all Televue eyepieces are mostly similar to their Plossl eyepieces, the difference is theirvvery inflated prices. However I have found that these two 100 degrees eyepiece from the APM HDC range are optically equal and price-wise better value for money than TeleVue ethos. Here I have unboxed these two eyepieces and compared them on daytime and night targets.
