‘The Gendered Political Embodiment of Feliza Bursztyn’s Work' - lecture by Cecilia Fajardo-Hill

'Throughout her existence, Feliza Bursztyn did not conform either to social norms – always living an unconventional life – or to canonical principles about art, good taste, traditional tenets about sculpture, the role of the spectator, materiality, craftsmanship, etc. Bursztyn was so free that, as an artist, she was not bogged down by the harsh criticism of art critics and the press; as a woman, she was not circumscribed by the traditional roles of mother and wife; and in her political views, she was left-wing but didn't become entangled with the dominant Colombian Maoist and Trotskyist faction's outlook on politics that also saw feminism as an imported ideology which was both bourgeoise and imperialistic.' Cecilia Fajardo-Hill* In 'The Gendered Political Embodiment of Feliza Bursztyn's Work' lecture, Cecilia Fajardo-Hill analyses how Bursztyn's unconventional motorised sculptures and performative installations provoked and activated the spectator, challenging society's taboos and creating emancipatory situations. *Cecilia Fajardo-Hill is an art historian, curator (along with Andrea Giunta) of the famous 'Radical Women in Latin American Art 1960-1985' presented and broadly acclaimed in Latin America and the US #felizabursztyn #muzeumsusch #grazynakulczyk #weldingmadness #swissalps #slowart #colombianartist #kineticart #colombianfemaleartist #onlinesynposium #skiraeditore #ceciliafajardohill #ceciliahill #artlecture
