Route 82 Kalamata, Sparta & Taygetos Mountains

Today we’re on a day trip from Kalamata going to Sparta via the gorge road know as Route 82. We’d heard this is an amazing scenic drive with loads of valley views and windy mountain roads, but the reality exceeded our expectations! This was one of the best mountain drives we have ever done! We made a pit stop at a hillside taverna in Tripi where the views are amazing and the drink portions are generous! From Sparta there is easy access to hike the Taygetos Mountains, so we used our Bradt guidebook and went on a 2 hour hike starting in the hills above Paroreio and ending back down in Mystras.
