A Look Inside The Historic Upstage Club In Asbury Park

ROCKIN' DOWN THE SHORE Asbury Park's Upstage Club holds a legendary place in music lore. It's the place where Bruce Springsteen met his band and helped mold the Jersey Shore rock scene on his way to superstardom. The Upstage shuttered in 1971, a casualty of the Asbury Park riots, and since then few people have set foot inside. Mike was lucky enough to get a tour of the space from Tom Jones, director of the new documentary, "Just Before the Dawn." The film chronicles the rise and fall of the Upstage Club as well as the city of Asbury Park during the late '60s and early '70s. It premieres at the Asbury Park Music & Film Festival on Friday, April 21. An all-star jam featuring Little Steven Van Zandt, Southside Johnny and a cast of E Street Band characters will take place directly after the film. The Asbury Park Film & Music Festival runs from April 20-23 and will feature documentary screenings and performances by Robert Randolph and the Family Band and the Preservation Hall Jazz Band.
