The Nature of the Thames - 1987
Another "blast from the past" video from my Thames Water Authority Conservation Officer days - from 1987 pre-privatisation. Produced as a contribution to the European Year of the Environment. This contains quite a lot of footage used in the 1988 Bank Managers video which I have posted separately, but it also includes a very interesting and indeed telling section on water quality and sewage disposal etc in the last 17 minutes of the video. This includes reference to sewage dumping by boat into deeper parts of the North Sea which was subsequently banned in 1988, and also the thorny issue of the lack of investment by Thames Water Authority in sewage treatment infrastructure. Dr Paul Johnson from Greepeace/St Mary's College states with great foresight that "Thames Water's loyalties appear to be to their shareholders". As we now know to our cost, that approach lasted for many years post-privatisation......
