LINHAS CRUZADAS | AUTONOMIA: LIBERDADE OU MALDIÇÃO? | 29/05/2025

Is autonomy obeying invisible laws — of morality, reason, tradition or faith? In Linhas Cruzadas, Andresa Boni and Luiz Felipe Pondé will present the concepts of autonomy. The discussion will lead us to rethink what it means to act on one's own and what the consequences may be. Saint Thomas Aquinas believed that obedience to God's will was the supreme virtue; Francis Bacon saw reason applied to experience as the birth of morality. And Immanuel Kant transformed autonomy into the basis of human dignity: men are free to the extent that they obey their own reason. Pondé will analyze the concepts of these thinkers and critically present the social expectations and invisible norms that can become barriers that prevent people from deciding for themselves. In addition, the episode analyzes how tradition can operate as a silent form of collective morality, often inherited and unconscious, and how this inheritance can be both a guide and a prison.
