Rally Costa Smeralda 1992

The 15th Rally Costa Smeralda - Martini Trophy offered many interesting features. Three Martini Racing Lancia Delta Integrali HFs were on the starting line, with Auriol, Aghini, and Cerrato. Martini Racing likely intended to place all three on the podium to best honor the team's and the event's sponsor. Unfortunately, the icing on the cake was missing, but the top two spots were still occupied by two Lancia Martinis. Franco Cunico was also in the mix, having not seen the finish line here in Sardinia for nine years. Not only did he finish the race, he also finished third overall and first among the contenders for the Italian title with his Sierra 4x4 Gr A. Deila, who also won the opening special stage, and Pasquali were at the start with Nocentini's Deltones, while Piero Longhi, here chasing points for the European Championship, was at the start with a Delta 16v. In Gr N, the usual Bentivogli made a clean sweep, and in the 2RM Gianni Fiora was fastest with his Renault Clio 16v. For the first time, the race featured a first stage entirely on asphalt, on the fast and treacherous routes of the Sardinian hinterland. This didn't please everyone, and some stages were canceled due to rain.
