You can use this type of file to upload closed captions to a YouTube video. To ensure your videos are inclusive and easily digestible for any audience, it's crucial you include an option to watch with subtitles. This will allow you to reach a wider audience too. Also more and more people tend to watch videos without any sound, making subtitles even more important in helping your audience be engaged in your videos. What does an SRT File look like? The example on screen shows you three caption frames. The first line is the caption number. The second line is the start and end time for the caption. And the third line is the text that is being said. How do you Make an SRT File? First head over to Veed.io. Veed is a free online video editing platform that allows you to edit videos quickly and easily. Once you have signed up and logged in, Veed will prompt you to upload footage. Press ‘New Project’, then click ‘Upload a File’ and find the files you wish to use. Click on the ‘subtitles’ tab on the sidebar, and select ‘Auto Transcribe’. Veed will then automatically convert your audio to subtitles. Once Veed has automatically generated your subtitles, you can see them located on top of your video file, in the timeline. Press play and check if there are any spelling errors in the subtitles. If there are errors, head to the text box window, and correct them. Once the text is correct, head to the ‘Options’ tab, and you will be given the option to ‘Download Subtitles’. To download the SRT file, make sure the drop down menu has selected .SRT. Then hit the ‘download’ button. This file will then be downloaded and saved to your computer. You can then upload the SRT file to your YouTube video. If you want to export the video with the subtitles, head over to the ‘Export’ button, and make sure the ‘Burn Subtitles’ button is highlighted. Using the dropdown menu, select what resolution you want to export in. Then hit ‘Export Video’. Veed will then render your video. Once Veed has finished, you can check the video one last time, by hitting ‘Play’. If you want to reedit the video, hit the ‘Edit Video’ button, and this will take you back to the editing page.
