On the night of November 4-5, 1985, Professor Zbigniew Religa, along with a team led by Professor Andrzej Bochenek and Professor Marian Zembala, performed the first successful heart transplant on a patient. This successful transplant was a major breakthrough – it gave hope to patients awaiting a new heart and opened the door to global medicine for doctors.
