Grape wine delight!🍷 🍇 magical fruit for making jelly yogurt, halwa & more mouthwatering recipes!

Although this is the second time this year that the vines have been pruned, the yield wasn’t as good as the first cut. Even though I cut enough to fill a sack rather than just a basket, Uncle couldn't put even a coin into my hand. That is because the relationship between us goes beyond kinship; it's a friendship built from growing up together with my father since childhood. More than half of the basket of grapes brought home was destined to be turned into wine; pressed and left to ferment for a month in a bottle along with sugar, yeast, cloves, cardamom, and cinnamon. When the well-ripened grapes were crushed by hand, the deep purple juice released was a rich reddish color; an attractive hue unique to black grapes. After about two weeks, once the sediment had settled at the bottom of the bottle, the grape wine had to be carefully siphoned off without disturbing the lees. Though the wine in the wide-bodied bottle appeared dark and translucent, when poured into a glass beside other bottles, it revealed a truly royal shade of red. The two trays of grape yogurt made by cooking grapes with sugar, blending them, and setting with a bit of gelatin were eaten with much delight by the fathers. No one even glanced at the sour batch that had been left too long on the tree. Ten whole combs of it had been generously served, just so everyone around, above and below, could have a taste. Father would go to Uncle Maddë just to have a small chat from then on or else to play Daam (A board game; checkers) or to have a shot of Raa (Sri Lankan Arrack). That’s how the old folks are; those who worked shoulder to shoulder with the soil. Truly simple at heart. They had their own way of quickly healing the hardships of the body and the burdens of the mind.
