URALIC: HUNGARIAN & KHANTY

Welcome to my channel! This is Andy from I love languages. Let's learn different languages/dialects together. Hungarian is a Uralic language of the proposed Ugric branch spoken in Hungary and parts of several neighbouring countries. It is the official language of Hungary and one of the 24 official languages of the European Union. Outside Hungary, it is also spoken by Hungarian communities in southern Slovakia, western Ukraine (Transcarpathia), central and western Romania (Transylvania), northern Serbia (Vojvodina), northern Croatia, northeastern Slovenia (Prekmurje), and eastern Austria (Burgenland). It is also spoken by Hungarian diaspora communities worldwide. With 14 million speakers, it is the Uralic family's largest member by number of speakers. Khanty is a Uralic language spoken in the Khanty-Mansi and Yamalo-Nenets Okrugs. As of 2010, there were about 7,500 speakers of Northern Khanty and 2,000 speakers of Eastern Khanty. Southern Khanty has been extinct since the early 20th century. The most recent census reported around 13,900 total Khanty speakers. The language has many dialects. This video is created for educational, language awareness, and language preservation purposes.
