Brother Jimmy : « En Guadeloupe, les traces de la colonisation persistent »
In Guadeloupe, Brother Jimmy is an institution, the activist brother present in every struggle. Indeed, throughout our conversation, his passion constantly shines through. He seems to want to tell a thousand stories at once, so deeply does rebellion permeate his thinking. A major cultural figure, he is one of the architects of the local sound system scene. In his eyes, it's an activity rooted in reality, allowing him to document a daily life riddled with challenges, making them "street journalists," always alert to the blatant injustices on his "island where the richest impoverish the poorest." From his life spent in Guadeloupe and the Parisian suburbs, Jimmy maintains a critical perspective on the world around him without ever losing the ambition that has driven him for decades: to connect Black communities, something he has achieved with his now-iconic radio show. Today, he is struck by the rise of the National Rally: "Voting for the National Rally in Guadeloupe is voting against yourself," he laments. This episode is the first in a series of three, filmed in Guadeloupe to better understand the voices shaping the island's issues.
