Nixon Impeachment Hearing July 30, 1974

Excerpts from the 6th and final hearing on the impeachment of Richard Nixon, by the House Judiciary Committee of the U.S. Congress (July 30, 1974), with a particular focus on the discussion by Congressman Charles E. Wiggins (R-CA) -- widely recognized by members of both parties as being the single most impressive member of the committee. Less than a week after this final hearing, upon reading the just-released transcript of the June 23, 1972 "smoking gun" tape, Wiggins announced that he would support the impeachment of Nixon -- and then all the other Republicans on the committee who had originally opposed impeachment each announced the same decision. Nixon resigned a few days later.
