Serbia into Kosovo | London to Singapore Overland EP8

We're in our 50s, driving a Land Rover Defender 110 from London to Singapore — and this week two countries surprised us in completely different ways. Serbia had already made its feelings clear from the moment we crossed the border. Police who joked around, a lakeside bar where strangers became friends by nightfall, a football match we had no stake in but somehow couldn't leave, and a breakfast paid for by people we'd never met and would never see again. That's the thing about Serbia — it keeps making its point. Along the way we slow down in Tara National Park when the rain makes the decision for us, explore the extraordinary Stopić Cave carved over millions of years by an underground river, watch griffon vultures circle the Ovčar-Kablar gorge, survive a camp that gave us serious Wrong Turn vibes, and make friends with a stray dog who decided the Defender needed guarding overnight. Then Kosovo. Everyone had warned us about the border. They needn't have. We crossed without a problem, drove into Pristina, stopped to help a stranger stranded on the road, and found a wild camp that made the whole detour worthwhile. Two countries. Completely different reputations.
