A Rock’n’Roll Legend Lost Everything | Music History

📌 Music History Moment 📅 May 22, 1958 Rock’n’roll star Jerry Lee Lewis arrived in Britain for his first major British tour after his plane was forced to make an emergency landing in Ireland because of an engine fire. But the real disaster began after landing. During interviews at Heathrow Airport, reporters discovered that Lewis had married his 13-year-old cousin, Myra Gale Brown. The reaction was immediate. British newspapers exploded with outrage. One paper even called him an “undesirable alien” and demanded his deportation. 37 concerts had been planned across Britain. Only 3 happened. The scandal nearly destroyed Lewis’s rock’n’roll career overnight and turned one of music’s biggest stars into one of its most controversial figures. Yet despite the backlash, Jerry Lee Lewis stayed with Myra for years. 🎹 Daily Music History Shorts Stories behind legendary music moments. © DJ Petr Strup djpetr.cz #JerryLeeLewis #RockAndRoll #MusicHistory #1950s #Rockabilly #Scandal #Heathrow #MusicDocumentary #VintageMusic #RockHistory #MusicLegends #HistoryShorts #YouTubeShorts #ClassicRock #RockNRollHistory
