Times Salawat – Sallallahu ‘ala Muhammad, sallallahu ‘alayhi wa sallam

Whoever sends Salawat (blessings) upon the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), Allah grants that person special qualities and secrets. Through sending Salawat, a person may be protected from illnesses, their heart will remain at peace, and they will be joyful and content. If a person recites Salawat regularly and consistently, it becomes a means of attaining the following virtues: • The intercession (shafa’ah) of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) • Forgiveness of sins and mistakes • Relief from worldly needs and difficulties • Acceptance of supplications (du‘a) • Improvement of both outward appearance and inner spiritual state • Salvation from the punishment of Hell, even if one deserved it due to sins • Entry into Paradise without suffering • Mercy, protection, and preservation granted by Allah By sending Salawat upon our beloved Prophet (peace be upon him), we act like the angels and the righteous people. Encourage yourselves and your tongues to recite Salawat regularly. It is narrated from the great companion Anas ibn Malik that the Angel Jibreel told the Prophet (peace be upon him): if a Muslim sends one Salawat upon the Prophet, Allah will grant that person 10 rewards and raise them by 10 درجات (levels). Salawat is a supplication asking Allah to grant the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) even more mercy, blessings, honor, and to protect his الأمة (nation). There are more than 400 forms of Salawat. The shortest ones include: “Allahumma salli ‘ala Muhammad” or “Sallallahu ‘ala Muhammad.” The Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Whoever sends one Salawat upon me, Allah will grant him 10 rewards, forgive 10 minor sins, and raise him 10 درجات (levels).” There are other narrations stating that each Salawat raises a person’s rank by 10 levels. There is also a hadith stating that it is a bad deed when the name of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is mentioned and a person does not send Salawat upon him. In other words, if the Prophet’s name is mentioned and a person does not send even one Salawat, that person is described as truly stingy. If people gather somewhere and do not remember Allah or send Salawat upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), even if they enter Paradise, they will realize that they have missed out on great rewards. What do we gain by constantly sending Salawat? From the companion Abdullah ibn Mas‘ud, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: “The closest and most honored people to me on the Day of Judgment are those who sent the most Salawat upon me.” And in the Qur’an, in Surah Al-Ahzab, it is said: “Indeed, Allah sends blessings upon the Prophet, and His angels (also do so). O you who believe!
