We Rode With Arizona DPS at Night and Weren’t Ready for This!

Arizona DPS gave Alpha Responder Network rare access inside the patrol car of a State Trooper working the Downtown Phoenix Metro area — and the night started fast. In this episode, Kent Shelley rides along with Trooper B. Leverett of the Arizona Department of Public Safety for an inside look at what Arizona State Troopers deal with on a Saturday night in one of the busiest areas of Phoenix. Within minutes of checking on, we rush to assist after a suspect flees from troopers and allegedly dumps a backpack. From there, the night continues with high-speed traffic stops, suspended licenses, expired registration, warrants, no insurance, and a DUI investigation involving suspected marijuana impairment. Many people think DPS only works the highways, but this ride-along shows a much bigger picture. Trooper Leverett gives us a rare look at the decision-making, discretion, and responsibility that comes with wearing the Arizona DPS badge. This was Arizona DPS — and this was just one night. Thank you to the Arizona Department of Public Safety and Trooper B. Leverett for allowing us this rare opportunity.
