Inspired from the poem "Mazeppa" issued from "Orientales" writen by Victor Hugo, this piece is the fourth of the "Twelve Transcendentals Etudes" composed by Franz Liszt in 1852. Beautifully performed by Sylvain Blassel on a 1922 Lyon & Healy harp, this highly difficult work represents Ivan Mazeppa strapped onto the back of a galloping horse, his fall announcing death and finally, wake up and triumph.
