Mumbai's First Rain Showers... and the Local Trains Grind to a Halt...!!!

As the monsoon rain properly hit Mumbai yesterday, it brought with it the usual problems. In the first hour itself on the Saturday morning, there was some problem with the overhead equipment on Western Railway and the local trains were severely affected running 15 - 20 minutes late. The trains started piling up one behind the other. They were moving very slowly along the tracks coming to a halt at each signal since they were stuck behind one an other. In this video you can see many local trains between Grant Road and Mumbai Central stations of the Western Railway as they move slowly and halt and start again due to red signals. The video showcases all types of local trains (EMUs). The description can be seen as follows :- 1) A Bombardier EMU running as an empty service train passes very slowly on the Virar bound fast track. 2) A Siemens EMU running as a Borivali slow heads towards Mumbai Central in nice rain showers. 3) A Virar bound fast local (9xx series EMU) comes to a halt. 4) One minute later, a Borivali slow train (also 9xx series) comes to a halt in front of the other one. 5) A Churchgate fast (ICF made EMU) and a Churchgate slow (retro EMU) also come to a halt. And one by one, all the 4 trains slowly start accelerating and pulling away. This is one of my best captures of trains on all 4 tracks. 6) A ladies special to Churchgate passes slowly in more showers. This was also a Bomabrdier EMU. 7) A Churchgate bound fast train (retro EMU) comes to a halt as a Borivali fast Siemens EMU crosses it. 8) The Churchgate bound fast train accelerates and another Virar bound fast (ICF made EMU) goes in the opposite direction. Thus you can see how badly the trains were affected after Mumbai's first rains only. Hopefully it will get better with time. Date of video: 11th June, 2016
