However, when Kuzey goes to Istanbul to attend university, he forgets all his promises and embarks on new romances. When this is discovered by his family and Yıldız, Kuzey is ostracized by everyone in the village, including his own family. Now Kuzey has neither a hometown nor a family. Yıldız has lost her North, the pillar that held up her sky, the only direction she knew, and is left with a stake driven into her heart, the pain of which she has never forgotten. Kuzey married the woman he loved, had three children, but twenty years later, he experienced what he had put Yıldız through: he was abandoned, swindled, and left penniless. With three daughters—one on the verge of young womanhood, one in the throes of adolescence, and one still a child—and two families who have become enemies because of Kuzey, events spiral out of control. Kuzey is determined not to leave, Yıldız is determined not to forgive, and the families are determined not to reconcile.
