The #1 Weapon Most BJJ Practitioners Ignore (It's Not Strength)
Cardio? Strength? Mental toughness? No. The #1 weapon most BJJ practitioners ignore is rest. We talk about building strength. We talk about improving cardio. We talk about developing mental toughness. But what about the one thing that fuels all of them? In this video, I share a philosophy that stuck with me from the Bourne book series: "Rest is a weapon." Jason Bourne could clear rooms, lead police chases, and hack into any system. And whenever he had a moment? He would lay down and go into a deep rest. Because he knew that his capacity to perform came from his ability to recharge. The problem: Most of us are running on fumes. We gut through workouts. We chug espresso and energy drinks. We push through classes on four or five hours of sleep. And we wonder why we're stalled, injured, or just not progressing. The truth: You can start your car on empty. It will go down the street. But which would you rather have—a full tank or a fuel light? What you'll learn in this video: • Why rest is the foundation of everything • The difference between running on empty vs. running topped up • How sleep affects your training, teaching, relationships, and recovery • Why the strongest warriors have the deepest rest • How to shift from "can I make it through?" to "am I fully charged?" My personal experience: On four or five hours of sleep, I'm looking for pockets of rest throughout the day. I'm not absorbing techniques. I'm not present in conversations. I'm just getting through it. On seven to nine hours of sleep? I have energy for everything. I teach better. I train better. I'm not thinking about sleep until I get to bed. The question for you: Are you running on fumes, or are you coming from a full cup? Rest is a weapon. And you can choose to use it to its maximum potential—to reach your maximum potential.
