Firewood Burning: Firewood burning is the most common form of biomass burning in the urban households of Kohima city causing extensive deforestation. Emissions out of firewood burning contain pollutants and other health hazards primarily affecting the household members. The per capita household production of smoke results in massive damage of ambient air quality that covers Kohima city. Therefore, burn less firewood and switch to clean fuels like LPG. 2. Garbage Burning: Most households burn garbage and biodegradable wastes resulting in extensive production of smoke. Hence, the District Administration, Kohima encourages households to adopt sustainable method of Backyard Home Composting, which is environment friendly and a progressive measure.
