Easy Fix MSI Screen Hinge No Glue Stronger Than New - GE76 GE66 GE77 GE76 GE66 GE77 & more

My MSI GE76 Raider screen hinge broke and I found a way to fix it that is stronger than it was from the factory. No replacement parts ordered, no glue, no adhesive. Just a 4-40 tap, some flathead screws, a drill, a soldering iron to remove the brass inserts, and some 3M VHB tape for the covers. The root cause on these MSI laptops is that the hinge bolts into plastic that is only loosely attached to the metal back plate of the screen. The fix here bypasses the plastic entirely by tapping new threads directly into the metal lid and bolting straight through. The result is rock solid. This same hinge design and failure affects the MSI GE76, GE66, GP76, GP77, GE77, GE67, and GP66 series laptops, so if you have any of these models this repair should apply to you. Tools needed: drill, 4-40 tap, 4-40 quarter inch flathead Phillips screws, soldering iron, heat gun, small washers, 3M VHB tape. No parts to order. No waiting. Bolted. Stronger than new.
