Originating in Ancient Egypt, hieroglyphs are one of the oldest scripts in the world. Texts in hieroglyphs are sacred: they adorn the walls of tombs and temples, unfold on papyri and give the names of kings. But how do we read hieroglyphs? The visitor discovers it in the tomb-library of the great scholar Padiaménopé, who transmits his knowledge to us beyond the millennia. He specializes in hieroglyphic epigraphy and is interested in the origins of Egyptian writing. Christine Gallois is president of the Kheops Fund for Archeology and a member of the archaeological mission of the tomb of Padiamenope. As a specialist in Egyptology, she is very involved in the dissemination of knowledge relating to ancient Egypt. This film was part of the exhibition "L'aventure Champollion" at the French National Library (April 12-July 24, 2022), on the occasion of the bicentenary of the decipherment of hieroglyphs by Jean-François Champollion.
