Lecture 32 GATE Problem on Recycle with Purge
This video explains how to take material balance on reactive systems involving a recycle stream with inerts. Inerts tend to build up in the system. Hence a purge stream is drawn from the recycle stream in order to maintain the steady state and prevent concentration of inerts in the recycle. The problem taken here appeared in 1990 GATE. A systematic approach to any such problem involving recycle and purge has been developed here. First it is taught how to make a decision regarding which type of balance one should use namely molecular species balance, atomic species balance or use extent of reaction. Then it is taught how to choose a correct basis so that problem becomes solvable. Then the actual calculations have been done after checking whether degree of freedom is reduced to zero.
