Chocolate Level Design Contest 2020 Submission

Level download: https://bin.smwcentral.net/u/26615/ma... CLDC 2020 forum post and information: https://www.smwcentral.net/?p=viewthr... Heres my contribution to CLDC 2020. I had really fun time working on this project and I'm overall really proud with how it came out. I had to learn a lot going into this including how to DMA graphics. I learned some minor HDMA for different scroll rates. I learned how to create custom music and ported Funhouse Fever for Cuphead. (which out of everything to learn was the hardest.) Not to mention, all of the custom graphics I had to make. I think my favorite graphics have to be the layer 3 film grain I made, I think it really completes the look. Also the titlescreen which I 3D modeled was really fun to do. I think the weakest part of the level is the level design itself. I'm not very experienced when it comes to it and the pacing is a bit off. Once I had the concept developed I spent like 80% of my time trying to think of fun things to do with it and 20% to actually build and test it. (sorry if any parts feel weird or janky because of this.) In the end I'm happy with what I put out and I'm looking forward to seeing the results Edit: I forgot to put this here at first whoops. Generally I tend to make my own graphics, its what I enjoy doing most. However some of the tileset is base on 'Metroid Fusion - Sector 6' because I like what it did. Also the peach in the credits scene is traced from peach's Paper Mario sprite. The reason being that I was too pressed for time to draw them from scratch even though I really wanted to. The first two cutscene images were made earlier but the rest were made litterally hours before the contest ended. I was also originally planning a few scenes of mario holding a super feather and transforming into super mario, similar to popeye, but it didn't make the cut. This is why mario doesn't have a cape in the first scene. ---------------- Twitch:   / mm102   Twitter:   / mm102_
