Building and shooting selfbows at the Tennessee Classic 3D Archery shoot

The Tennessee Classic is a 3D archery shoot held in May just a little north of Nashville Tennessee. Unlike most shoots, the classic draws a lot of primitive bowyers and selfbow shooters. One of the coolest parts of the event is called the Selfbow Challenge. The rules are pretty simple - build a primitive bow on site and shoot the course with it! This was my first time at the classic so I decided to do the selfbow challenge. Just to do something a little different I made a recurve selfbow from an osage orange bow stave I got from Jim Hammer. It ended up raining the day I completed to bow so I shot the first part of the 3D target course with a laminated bow. The next day I finished the course with my newly made selfbow. I also got to shoot a few of James Parker's Asiatic horn bows which was amazing. These horn bellied, sinew backed bows can pack a lot of punch into a very small package.
