The porcelain ball player comes from two renowned manufacturers. After the Berlin sculptor and modeler Walter Schott designed his ball player in 1895, it was exhibited a year later as a plaster figure in its impressive original size of 1.40 meters in the Munich Glass Palace. This is how the Meissen company became aware of the special piece and bought the rights to Walter Schott's design, explains Friederike in her expert opinion. The figure featured in today's episode also comes from this series of porcelain ball players. It remains unclear what exactly Walter Schott intended to depict with his motif. Our expert says the dreamy figure with its delicate gown and golden ball reminds her of a princess from a fairy tale. Despite its age, the figure is still in good condition, apart from minor damage.
