El Oasis de Cataviñá y la Misión Olvidada del Desierto de Baja California

In the Cataviñá Desert, Baja California, where the wind brushes the native palm trees and granite formations... there is a hidden oasis of turquoise water known as the Escuadra. To reach it, a challenging trail leads adventurers to the heart of the Valle de los Cirios. On the tour to the Cataviñá oasis, we visited the ruins of the Mission of Santa María de los Ángeles, which was the last of the missions established by the Jesuits in Baja California, almost 300 years ago. But the Cataviñá oasis was already inhabited by the first settlers of the Americas thousands of years ago. The Cochimí people called the oasis Cabujakaamung, and they left their testimony in petroglyphs.
