Poets' Corner with Tamryn Bennett

Poets' Corner is WestWords' monthly encounter with celebrated Australian poets, curated by David Adès. Each month a poet is invited to read and talk about their poetry on a theme of the poet's choice. This month David talks to Tamryn Bennett. Dr Tamryn Bennett is a poet, artist and former Artistic Director of Red Room Poetry. Her poetry collections are Icaros and phosphene. She is also editor of A Line in the Sand: 20 years of Red Room Poetry and Líneas en tierra / Lines in land — a bilingual collection of Mexican poetry (Australian Poetry). Growing up in a plant nursery on unceded Dharawal land, trees have always been Tamryn’s first language. Nature informs her creative practice and has led her to develop national and international projects that engage communities in conservation and creative expression, such as Poem Forest and New Shoots. Her work has been commissioned, exhibited and published widely in Australia and internationally. Tamryn has a PhD in ‘comics poetry’ from the University of New South Wales where she also taught creative writing.
