Chasing Trains at Morant's Curve #landscapephotography #trainspotting #lakelouise

We head out to capture some really different subject matter for our photography this week! While in the Lake Louise Alberta area, we drove to Morant's Curve viewpoint. Lake Louise is in the northern portion of Banff National Park. This viewpoint that highlights some of the Canadian Rocky Mountain peaks in the background with a lovely S curve of the railway as it follows the Bow River. The curve leads the viewer's eye in a northwestern direction from the viewpoint. The scene is best captured with a southbound train heading toward the viewer. Mornings provide the best light for the photograph since that is when the sun lights up the mountain range in the northwest. The scene is wonderful at any time of year. However, some of the more unique photographs are captured in winter when there is more snow on the mountain peaks and possibly a dusting of snow on the evergreen trees. Nicholas Morant (1910-1999) was a photographer for the Canadian Pacific Railway who captured photos used for advertising train travel to potential tourists. Many of his photographs shared the majestic beauty of the Canadian Rockies. His iconic photo of the Morant's Curve is said to be one of his favorite shots. We hope you enjoy the video.
