天然の竹を用いて作られる継ぎ竿。享保年間に江戸で作られるようになり、江戸時代後期に一大発展をとげる。和竿の特徴は、釣る魚の種類に応じた材料選びから始まり、竹が持つ靭性を生かした作りと味わいのある漆仕上げにある。 Edo-wazao is a jointed fishing rod made of bamboo. The begining of this craft began in Edo（present-day Tokyo）in the early 18th century. Bamboo is carefully selected, and utilizing its flexibility, it is fashioned into a rod.
