Best Wiring Practices for the Simon XT

In this video Joe discusses the optimal wiring practices to follow when setting up an Interlogix Simon XT System. The system comes included with a 8-foot long 22-gauge wire that is used for providing power. However, if you plan to do a longer run, you might want to update to a thicker 18-gauge wire. Connecting the Simon XT Panel to its plug-in transformer will require opening up the panel and locating the proper terminals for powering the system. The terminals are both labeled "9VAC In". Since this is AC power, polarity does not matter, and either colored wired can go to either plug-in terminal. Just make sure the wire connections are nice and secure. The panel can be closed once wiring is complete. We recommend wiring the panel before connecting the other wire end to the transformer. Again, since AC power being used, either colored wire can go to either terminal on the plug-in transformer. You should connect the wire to the transformer before attempting to plug it in. The Simon XT System wire comes with helpful spade leads for completing the wire connection. These spade leads are excellent for ensuring that they stay in place at all times. Another option is to use a Honeywell LT-Cable for wiring. Additionally, the backup battery for the panel will also need to be connected. The Simon XT Panel will rely on its battery backup in the event of a power outage. The backup battery can be identified as a large black box that is present inside the Simon XT System. When connecting the backup battery, polarity is important. The red wire should go to positive (+), and the black wire should go to negative (-).
