The lecture series "Cosmos Child" is a joint initiative of the Academy. For the Child. Giedion Risch and the Parenting Foundation. Prof. Dr. Daniel Süss is a media psychologist, media educator, and communication scientist. The representative studies he oversees on the everyday media use of the younger generation in Switzerland (JAMES and MIKE studies) provide the empirical basis for the often controversial societal discourse on the "right" way to use media. "If we want to understand children's media use, we have to consider their entire daily lives," argues the renowned media psychologist. "Because both media experiences and direct experiences can be beneficial or risky for their development." Increasingly younger children are navigating the internet independently via smartphones and are thereby confronted with new risks. They not only consume content from third parties but also reveal a great deal about themselves. They are testing their identity on the digital stage, which is closely interwoven with their everyday lives.
