For 10 years, according to the Attorney General's Office, the MS-13 leadership decided who lived and who died in El Salvador. Today, those same leaders appear in handcuffs at CECOT, while their victims listen to the audio recordings, evidence, and testimonies that led to the largest trial in the country's history. In this video, we analyze the case of the so-called "historical leadership" of MS-13, accused of thousands of crimes committed between 2012 and 2022. Among the accused are leaders like "Diablito de Hollywood," "Snider de Pasadena," and "El Sirra de Teclas," names that authorities have mentioned for years as key figures within the criminal organization. The Attorney General's Office attributes to this leadership homicides, extortion, issuing orders from prisons, coordinating cliques, using hidden cell phones, intercepting audio recordings, and an internal system of rules that maintained control over entire communities. But this time, the story has changed. The men who, according to authorities, previously gave orders from prison, now appear handcuffed, with shaved heads, and connected via videoconference from the CECOT (Center for Coordination and Intelligence). Before them are the audio recordings, videos, documents, and the victims who lived in fear for years. This case not only exposes the power MS-13 wielded in El Salvador, but also reveals how the state reconstructed the chain of command, how its internal codes were deciphered, and how a massive trial seeks to answer for thousands of crimes that scarred the country.
