Cape Route Rally – The Impossible Challenge | Part 1 Welcome back to the Cape Route Rally – and this time, it's The Impossible Challenge. In this action-packed Part One, we tackle the first three days of our most intense adventure yet through the rugged Northern Cape. Day 1: We kick things off with a prologue at the Lamberts Bay Dunes. With rain-hardened sand giving way to soft underlayers, the dunes were perfect for drifting and testing our vehicles before the real challenge began. Day 2: We journey deeper into the Northern Cape, making our way through muddy gravel backroads toward Kamieskroon. There, we took on three massive granite mounds – each steeper than the last – culminating in a successful climb up the infamous Pinnacle Point (aka Hansies se klip), a granite slab with a 43° incline. It was steep, sketchy, and unforgettable. Day 3: The challenge we came for, The Impassible Pass. A long-forgotten mountain pass leading to an abandoned mine. The descent was brutal – loose rock, wet sandy terrain, and massive drop-offs. But the real test came going back up. From tyre-beading failures to winch-assisted recoveries, it was a battle of traction, teamwork, and guts. We end Part 1 with breathtaking views from the cliffs above the Orange River, watching the sun set over the South African–Namibian border.
