He says it was a shock at first, but it was good that he found out early. Early detection is important in everything, isn't it? The earlier you detect it, the earlier you can start treating it. My daughter wasn't amblyopic, but she was nearsighted and has had glasses since she was in the second grade of elementary school. After one of us accidentally said, "I can't see the words on the blackboard," we immediately took her to the eye doctor and got her glasses. When she put the glasses on for the first time, my daughter said, "There are dots on the (wall) clock!!" (The lines that mark the minutes and seconds.) She seemed happy that she could see. Although it wasn't mentioned in this Voicy post, Bata-yan's blog features a post about how her youngest son responded when his friends called him "Meganezaru" (glasses-wearing). It was so amazing, I thought it would be a good idea to use it as a reference.
