I realized I hadn't systematically introduced it before, so I'm presenting it here! 🔥 Originally a work garment worn by French fishermen, it's a garment packed with ingenious features, such as its shape and fabric designed to protect against sea breezes. While still commonly worn in France, it's not yet widespread in Japan. Even during sourcing trips, it's often difficult to find depending on the timing and location! This time, we're introducing the fisherman's smock, comparing the original from that era with a modern, updated collaboration item…! Please read to the end! A relaxed silhouette designed to protect against sea breezes and a design that prioritizes ease of movement. This garment, born as workwear, naturally combines stripped-down functionality with beauty. While still commonly seen in France, it's still relatively uncommon in Japan. Furthermore, opportunities to find pieces in good condition and size are limited. This particular piece is a reinterpretation of that fisherman's smock, adapted to modern climates and everyday life. The body uses Fruit of the Loom fabric, specifically 9.5oz cotton pique. While breathable and lightweight, it has a substantial thickness, making it comfortable to wear even in Japan's spring and summer. The stitching uses thick 30-count thread. While retaining the robustness of workwear, it achieves a balance that also allows you to feel the soft drape characteristic of pique. The fabric also has a hard finish, giving it a slightly dry and rough texture initially. With repeated wear and washing, the fabric will soften and become more comfortable, allowing you to enjoy the changes in its texture and appearance. Available in ivory and charcoal black.
