30 Little Known Facts about American Graffiti Movie. This year is the 50th Anniversary of the American Graffiti Movie, it was released in 1973 a year after I was born. So I never was able to see it on the big screen until this last weekend at my home town movie theatre and it was just awesome to see again (it had been awhile). The only trivia or facts that I knew about this movie from the past was that George Lucas used the proceeds from this film to bank roll his idea of the Star Wars movie. And he used some of the cast that really stood out in this movie to be used in Star Wars as well. So when I started researching these 30 Facts I'm right there with you in learning new things. Oh also one other interesting thing I heard on the radio the other day was that George Lucas said in an interview recently that all of the main characters in the American Graffiti movie is either him or touched his life in his earlier years. So wow after hearing that it really makes you think back about the cast in that movie... and I just can't stop thinking was he really like Toad? Or did he have a friend like Toad? Ha ha...
