Capacitor Failure: Galaxy 16" Oscillating Fan
This Galaxy 16" oscillating fan was running slower than expected. The motor sounded off. The power usage wasn't correct. All factors pointed to a spoiled capacitor. Upon opening it up, I was surprised to see it had one of these notoriously-abysmal orange capacitors that are very prone to drifting. Measuring the microfarads of the capacitor confirmed it was spoiled, producing only about half of the rated capacitance it should be. I have ordered a replacement capacitor, which should resolve the issues with this fan.
