CHEAPER ELECTRICITY AND MORE: GUYANA’S GAS TO ENERGY PROJECT
Foundation works have begun on the Gas to Energy Project, the most expensive project ever to be undertaken in Guyana’s history. Building of the integrated Natural Gas Liquids plant and a 300-megawatt electricity plant is being undertaken towards the end of the west bank of Demerara, an area most Guyana have not seen. The project is in keeping with Guyana’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) 2030, which foresees an energy transition away from heavy fuel oil and diesel. In the short term, these fuel sources will be replaced by natural gas, providing the needed firm capacity at a significantly lower generation cost compared to the other indigenous renewable energy options available in Guyana. The News Room’s Neil Marks has been checking on the project and filed this report… #gastoshore #energy #Guyana #newsroomguyana #electricity
