Mediator Caucus refers to a private session between one of the parties to the mediation and the mediator. It is used to share confidential information with the mediator which the parties may not be comfortable to share with the other party. Caucus helps the mediator understand the dispute better and at the same time, the parties feel encouraged to share whats on their mind. Effective use of caucus session helps the parties and the mediator to unravel whats underneath the dispute and focus on 'interests' rather than 'positions'.
